What we do

Our multidisciplinary team  provides intelligence and advice for policy focued on three pillars of population healthcare:  prevention of disease,  implementation of good science, risk and prevention of disease, novel technologies and innovation

Genomics into health

As genomic experts, we have a comprehensive understanding of how innovative technologies can contribute to more effective healthcare. We work with policy-makers, clinicians, academia and industry to develop future-focused healthcare strategies for safe and suitable use of innovations, such as diagnostics, genome editing and regenerative medicines. Only through understanding the benefits – and complexities – of genomics-based innovations and other ‘omics sciences can we help everyone benefit from great science.

Genomics and risk

Preventing people from becoming ill benefits everyone: individuals, health services and society. To prevent delay and minimise common conditions like heart disease and cancer, we need to know as much as possible about people’s risk of disease. Genomics and other biological information play a critical role, but generating and using health data to understand risk is no simple task. Our work addresses challenges such as the use of polygenic scores, the problem of overdiagnosis and ethical and legal issues.

Beyond genomics

We focus on new and emerging scientific opportunities for health, such as the power of AI to harness the wealth of data generated by genomics and ‘omics technologies. Our analyses of the potential impact of such tools on health services and society let us provide practical and realistic policy guidance grounded in sound science, law and ethics alongside medical needs and human concerns.
