We are delighted to announce Dr Sobia Raza as the new Head of Science at PHG Foundation. Sobia has taken over from Dr Leila Luheshi, who has now left the organisation.

Sobia has been with PHG Foundation since October 2013, working for much of the time as a policy analyst, specialising in data science. Many of you will know Sobia through her work on genomic data sharing where she has been providing expert analysis and insight into a range of data-related topics – including digital technologies and data analytics – and assessing how policy can shape their use and impact in healthcare. She also had a major role in our seminal work on pathogen genomics.

Before joining the PHG Foundation, Sobia was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh. She was also awarded a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) science-policy fellowship for a secondment to the Scottish Parliament as a Research Specialist, to provide independent insight into a range of science and health related topics, including healthcare associated infections.

After four years of leading the Foundation’s Science team, Leila Luheshi now at Oxford Nanopore, as Associate Director, Clinical and Translational Research.
